Filmed in Cape Town during the euphoria following South Africa's first democratic election this movie of the week analysed history in the making. The gravity with which Mr Poitier approached the role of Nelson Mandela was particularly inspiring. Both he and Sir Michael Caine were nominated for Emmy Awards for their roles in this movie.
